Newcastle United v West Ham United – Sunday 24 May – KO 15:00 BST
Newcastle host West Ham on the final weekend of the Premier League season at St James’ Park, and the Magpies are still not safe from relegation.
Queens Park Rangers and Burnley have both suffered the drop already, but one more team is still set to face the misery of falling to the Championship when the full-time whistle blows across England’s top flight on Sunday evening.
John Carver’s side must, therefore, focus on securing three points, rather than hoping that third-from-bottom Hull City fall to defeat at Old Trafford.
Sam Allardyce’s men have won just two of their last 10 domestic fixtures, but their opponents haven’t won a game since December.
Mike Williamson returns for Newcastle having served a two-match ban following his dismal against Leicester City. Boss John Carver is set to name the 31-year-old in his starting line up, despite stating that he felt the defender deliberately got himself sent off during the 3-0 defeat.
Midfielder Siem de Jong, striker Papiss Cisse and winger Rolando Aarons are also poised to return to the squad.
West Ham, meanwhile, welcome back Kevin Nolan who missed the Hammers’ previous clash versus QPR due to a family bereavement. James Tomkins could make his return, too, after recovering from a dislocated shoulder suffered in mid-March.
James Collins, however, will miss the trip.
