The former England international found the back of net with a finish that he has trademarked down the years as he placed the ball past Kelvin Davis after being picked out by James Milner.

The goal just after the hour mark has given City the lead at the Etihad Stadium against the Saints and keeps them on course to finish the season in strong fashion as they have won their last five games in a row following that 4-2 defeat in the Manchester derby last month.

Lampard will continue his playing career in the United States next season when he will link up with MLS outfit New York City, but the goal is a fitting tribute to one of the best goal-scoring midfielders to grace the Premier League.
