The Metro has also linked Manchester United to the striker who impressed for the Baggies this season. The 21-year-old scored 20 goals in 45 appearances during the campaign, helping the Midlands side to mid table obscurity under manager Tony Pulis after an flirting with a relegation battle early on.

Although he tailed off in the second half of the season this has still led to the trio of clubs chasing his signature, and Foster understands that he won’t be at the club forever if this continues.

He said: “It’s inevitable that big clubs will come in for Berahino as long as he keeps his head down and doing what he’s doing. If he keeps performing then the big clubs will come knocking and, eventually, there will be an offer too good to refuse.”

Liverpool are in need of a new forward after the failures of Rickie Lambert, Fabio Borini, and Mario Balotelli this season. Meanwhile Tottenham and Manchester United already have Harry Kane and Wayne Rooney respectively, but could both do with a reliable back up to their England internationals.

However, there are surely better options on the market than an unproven youngster who saw his goal count bolstered by netting four times against lowly Gateshead and another four from the penalty spot.
