The 26 year old England international has struggled with form and fitness since leaving Liverpool for Upton Park, initially on a loan deal ahead of a £15m permanent transfer, and is now looking to reignite his career back on the north-east.

Caretaker boss John Carver helped to retain Newcastle United’s Premier League status on the final weekend of the season and Carroll could well help to push the Magpies back in the right direction.

Though Carroll started just 12 Premier League fixtures this season the powerful forward still bagged five goals though the exit of Sam Allardyce from the East London side may hasten a West Ham exit.

Carroll left Newcastle United for Liverpool in 2011 in a massive £35m deal and it would be fair to say that the Gateshead born marksman has seen his career stutter ever since.
