The 22-year-old had a tough season with the Rossoneri, scoring three goals in 19 appearances while the team struggled to finish tenth in Serie A. This has been a major setback for the youngster, who was tipped for big things after he netted 16 times in 37 Italian top flight matches in the 2012-13 season.

However, the Gunners are still keen on the winger despite this downturn in fortunes according to the Metro, and Arsene Wenger could mount an attempt to sign the player. With a long way still to go in his career, a £18.1 million transfer fee would be more for his potential than current ability.

Amoyal revealed:

As the North London club already have a selection of players such as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo Walcott, and Alexis Sanchez who can play out wide, is it really worth getting El Shaarawy?
