Manchester United are going to offer Benfica Nani as a makeweight in a £21.2 million deal for winger Nicolas Gaitan, reports the Metro.
The Portuguese was on loan at local rivals Sporting Lisbon this season, and scored 11 goals in 39 appearances for Benfica’s rivals. Most impressively he managed to net four times in seven Champions League games, showing that he is still capable at the highest level.
The 28-year-old could be a good part of any deal for Gaitan, being a direct replacement for the winger. However, it would seem that at least in Louis van Gaal’s eyes the latter is better than the Red Devil, despite having just four goals in 32 games for Benfica in the last campaign.
United have already announced the signing of left winger Memphis Depay from PSV Eindhoven, and Gaitan could operate on the right to balance the side. According to the Metro he is a key target for the Old Trafford hierarchy as a result.
