The forward enjoyed a stunning 2014-15 season in the Eredivisie with PSV Eindhoven, scoring 25 goals in all competitions, and his performances didn’t go unnoticed by Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal who acted early to beat Paris Saint-Germain to his in-demand signature [via BBC Sport].

And Marco van Basten believes that Manchester United have clinched the signing of one of Europe’s ‘special talents’.

The former Ajax and AC Milan forward said, “He’s a special talent. He’s better than the rest,” as quoted by Sky Sports.

“He’s a very good player. He’s a young star who is strong and has his own ideas, which I think is a good thing for a player,” he added.

“He’s also a guy who still wants to learn and he’s in good hands with Louis van Gaal who has already worked with him at the World Cup.

“He now has to demonstrate that he can also play well in England. He will show that to you. I don’t know whether it will be quick and come in the first year, but he has the skills to succeed in England.”

It was announced on May 7 [via MUFC’s official Twitter] that Manchester United had reached an agreement with PSV for the Netherlands international, as Louis van Gaal sent out a huge message of intent to the club’s rivals by starting his business early.

The 21-year-old passed his medical with the Red Devils [via Sky Sports] last week and, once the paperwork has been finalised, the transfer will be confirmed when the international transfer window opens in June.
