Layun spoke in a recent interview with Record about his desire to succeed in European football and particularly with Watford in the Premier League.

“My mind is focused on staying in the first division for as long as I can, this league improves every year and is now one of the top leagues in the world. My intention is to win a place in the league and follow the footsteps of Chicharito,” he said.

Layun has a contract with Watford for 4 years, and he hopes his team can stay in the Premier League for at least the duration of his contract. The defender debuted with Veracruz in 2006, and after 4 years he emigrated to Italy to play in the Serie A with Atalanta.

The move didn’t work out and he struggled for minutes, so he returned to Mexico to play for America in 2012. He went on to win two titles with the Mexican giants, beating Cruz Azul and Tigres in the two finals.
