Spurs’ defensive midfielder heading back to Brazil

Flamengo are closing in on a deal to bring Spurs’ defensive midfielder Paulinho back to Brazil.

After earlier announcing the signing of the ex-Bayern Munich striker Paolo Guerrero, Flamengo are now trying to improve their midfield and have their eyes on Paulinho.

Tottenham defensive midfielder can join Flamengo on loan as according to the site Falando de Flamengo, with the Brazilian not being in the plans of Mauricio Pocchettino for next season.

Paulinho currently makes more than £75,000 per week with Spurs, and it is being reported by the site that the player would have to first accept a pay cut if he is interested in moving back to his home country.

Paulinho began his career in the youth team of Sao Paulo, but after just 17 games moved to FC Vilnius in Lithuania in 2006.

He than moved back in Brazil andplayed for Corinthians between 2010 and 2013.

Eventually he was called up to the Brazilian national team, for whom he has played 32 games and scored 5 goals.

After his excellent performance in the Confederations Cup two years ago, Paulinho was sold to Tottenham for approximately £20 million.
