Aston Villa have been well beaten by Arsenal in the FA Cup final, with their North London side dominating the encounter from start to finish.
The Villans were immediately on the back foot in the Wembley showpiece, having to withstand heavy pressure early on. Eventually this told on Tim Sherwood’s side, with Theo Walcott netting a thumping volley.
However, they held on until half time, going in to the break just a goal behind. This hope wasn’t to last though, with Alexis Sanchez completing his amazing debut season with a brilliant goal to double the Gunners’ lead.
The Midlands side had looked dodgy at the back throughout, and this was on display for the North London side’s third. No one marked Per Mertesacker as he knocked the ball in to the back of the net from a corner kick.
Finally Olivier Giroud put the icing on the cake with a last minute goal after coming off the substitutes’ bench to complete a scoreline that perfectly summed up the one sided nature of the match.
