Liverpool have reignited their interest in Cardiff City goalkeeper David Marshall after ruling Stoke City star Asmir Begovic too expensive, reports the Daily Star.

The 30-year-old was linked to the Reds last year, but they then moved on to other targets such as Begovic and Club Brugge stopper Mat Ryan. However, they have now gone full circle, and are after the Scotland international again.

Marshall impressed as the Bluebirds were relegated from the Premier League in the season before last, and has continued to be an important part of their side in the Championship. The goalie played 44 times for the Welsh side this season, getting a lot of practice as they struggled to finish 11th in the division.

The Reds are interested amid continuing doubts about the ability of current number one Simon Mignolet. The Belgian made several high profile mistakes in the last campaign as they failed to qualify for the Champions League.
