Man United transfer: Could Gonzalo Higuain save Angel Di Maria’s Old Trafford career?

The Argentine winger handed in a formal transfer request at Old Trafford on Sunday, and looks set to cut his losses following a mixed first campaign in Manchester according to the Metro.

The 27-year-old may have contributed 10 Premier League assists this campaign during a troubled season for United, but has failed to win over the club’s fans and has not done enough to justify a £59.7 million transfer fee.

While club legend Paul Scholes has urged Louis van Gaal not to ditch the former Real Madrid man [via the Manchester Evening News], the arrival of Memphis Depay [via BBC Sport] and the lingering interest of several European heavyweights may well see Di Maria leave the club over the coming months.

As well as Bayern Munich, PSG are also believed to be keen on bringing the international to the Parc des Princes [via Eurosport].

Speaking to Telefoot [via Le 10 Sport] David Luiz has admitted that he would love to see Di Maria join Laurent Blanc’s side.

“If he could come, I would be delighted,” the former Chelsea defender admitted, “he’s a great player.

“Have I spoken to him?” he continued, “that’s private!”

Similarly, as reported by Le 10 Sport, Thiago Silva also appeared to add his stamp of approval to the club’s potential recruitment plans.

“He’s a great player,” the PSG skipper began, “Di Maria didn’t win the Champions League all on his own, but I think he did more than Cristiano Ronaldo that season to win the title.

“Di Maria was incredible right up to the final.”
