Since the Italian was officially dismissed by Los Blancos in a press conference held by president Florentino Perez on 25 May, two days after the La Liga season came to an end, Rafael Benitez has been heavily linked to the position [via The Independent].

Eduardo Fernandez de Blas was full of praise for Ancelotti following his harsh sacking, describing the former Chelsea boss as a ‘phenomenon’.

Nonetheless, judging by his comments his successor has already been decided, and it appears only a matter of time before Benitez’s arrival in Madrid is confirmed by the Spanish giants.

Eduardo said, “I’ll tell you one thing, Carlo Ancelotti is a real phenomenon,” as quoted by BBC Sport.

“We give our thanks to him. Until three days ago, he was, for me, the best coach in the world, just as two years ago it was Jose Mourinho, and, as from this week, will be Rafa Benitez.”

The Spaniard boasts an outstanding CV. Among his most impressive triumphs in his managerial career is the Champions League title won with Liverpool in the 2004-05 campaign after a stunning comeback against Ancelotti’s AC Milan in the final.

He has also claimed two La Liga trophies with Valencia and managed Real Madrid’s Under-19 side from 1993 to 1995.
