Stamford Bridge side plot yet another Atletico Madrid raid.
Chelsea will look to beat Southampton to the signing of Atletico Madrid defender Toby Alderweireld according to the Metro.
The 26 year old Belgian spent last term on loan at Southampton and Jose Mourinho has seen enough to want to challenge the south-coast side for his permanent capture.
The adaptable Vicente Calderon star can play at right-back and in a central defensive role and will be available for just £7m and may be seen by Mourinho as an ideal option to add strength in depth to his defence.
Alderweireld started 26 Premier League fixtures last season and played a key role in the Ronald Koeman’s side as they secured a Europa League spot, albeit due to Arsenal’s FA Cup triumph.
One imagines the allure of a move to Stamford Bridge would tempt Toby Alderweireld though clearly his chances of regular first team football would be better served by a Southampton switch.
