There has been welcome news for Manchester City supporters as influential midfielder Yaya Toure has committed his immediate future to the club.
The Ivorian’s future at the Etihad Stadium has been called into question ever since comments from his agent (via Sky Sports) last month in where it seemed almost certain that Toure would seek a new challenge in the summer.
There has been strong talk of him making the switch to Serie A to link-up with his former boss Roberto Mancini at Inter Milan, but City chairman Sheikh Mansou insisted (via Mirror Sport) the 32-year-old would be going nowhere anytime soon.
Now Toure has taken extra steps to reassure City fans that will be will at the club next season as they look to wrestle the Barclays Premier League title away from Chelsea:
“I will definitely stay. The fans don’t have to be worried,” he confirmed to the Manchester Evening News.
“My target this year is to try to do everything possible to make this team improve well.”
“I am sure with my experience, maybe I hope, with the players coming in a couple of weeks, a couple of months, definitely it is going to be a strong City next year,” the midfield powerhouse added.
Despite not hitting the heights of previous campaigns, Toure still managed to reach double figures for goals in 29 league apperances and shows signs of returning to his best with a brace against Swansea City in the penultimate fixture of the season.
