The Gunners are in need of new additions up front, with Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck both having come under criticism for their performances up front this season.

Alexis Sanchez outscored both players this season, finishing as Arsenal’s top scorer with 25 strikes in all competitions, despite often playing out wide or behind the main centre forward. In contrast, Giroud only managed 18 despite being a regular starter as the team’s main striker, while Welbeck managed a hugely disappointing 8 in all competitions – some way off what is expected of a striker at a big club.

Bacca, meanwhile, netted 28 times in all competitions this term, and this fine form has now put him on Arsenal’s radar this summer, according to the Daily Express.

The prolific Colombian international is said to have held talks with his current club over a move away, with his superb form this season helping Sevilla achieve glory in the Europa League final.

Still, even with Sevilla set to play in the Champions League after their triumph in Europe, Bacca could be tempted by a move to a bigger club, though Liverpool’s chances of signing him are described as slim after they missed out on a top four place in the Premier League.

Arsenal are in the competition once again after finishing third, and Bacca could be the kind of quality signing up front that would help the Gunners finally put in a stronger challenge to go all the way in the tournament, having never done so in their history and last reaching the final all the way back in 2006.

With the signing of Sanchez last summer and Mesut Ozil the year before, Wenger has shown more willingness to spend in recent times, and a move for Bacca would surely appease fans who want to see the team build on their success in the FA Cup this season.
