Louis van Gaal spent massive sums last summer, forking out over £120m to bring in a host of talents including Angel di Maria, Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw and Daley Blind, and the Dutch boss appears likely to once again conduct a spending spree having already secured PSV Eindhoven’s Memphis Depay.

25 year old Welsh international Bale became something of a scapegoat for Real Madrid’s failure to secure a major title this term, despite his very respectable tally of 17 goals and 11 assists, and as such could be considering his future at the Bernabeu.

Young centre-back Varane found himself behind Pepe and Sergio Ramos in the defensive pecking order under Carlo Ancelotti and his future at the club will depend greatly on whether Rafa Benitez, who is set to be named the new Real Madrid boss, values the 22 year old highly.
