The left-back has emerged as one of the club’s unsung heroes this season and has gone on to displace Kieran Gibbs as a regular in the team since the turn of the year.

He got the nod over the England international once again in the final against Aston Villa at Wembley and played a huge part on the opening goal as his cross was headed back into the danger area by Alexis Sanchez for Theo Walcott to break the deadlock before the interval.

There had been rumours that La Liga duo Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao were lining up deals respectively to offer the 28-year-old a route back home this summer (via Express Sport).

However, speaking to Gulf News Sports Reporter Ashley Hammond, Monreal has assured Gunners supporters that he intends to stay in North London.
