The Red Devils were thought to have all but confirmed that they had signed the Germany international. However, Blaugranas officials are now flying to Ibiza, where the midfielder is on holiday, to try and persuade him to think again about going to the Camp Nou.

Gundogan himself has already made it clear that he will not be signing a new deal with BVB, and with his current contract ending in 2016 he is leaving the Bundesliga side this summer.

With Barca legend Xavi leaving the Catalan club this summer they are likely keen to bring in a new midfielder in order to take over from the 35-year-old. Even though he has played a lesser part this season, the former Spain international will still have some big boots to fill in the eyes of the fans.

On the other hand, United are keen to bolster their squad after getting back in to the Champions League by finishing fourth in the Premier League. With the added allure this gives the club to potential signings manager Louis van Gaal will be hoping to bring in players who are able to take them to the next level.
