Brendan Rodgers’s side have confirmed that they are travelling to Thailand for a pre-season tour and will kick off their fixtures with a clash against Thai Premier League All Stars.

The two will meet on July 14 at the 50,000-capacity Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok according to the Liverpool Echo.

The contest may well be the occasion for the date of James Milner, who has been strongly linked with a move to Anfield this summer.

The England international has come to the end of his contract at Manchester City, and the Daily Star have reported that the Reds are willing to pay £150,000-per-week in order to sign the midfielder.

While a transfer fee would not be required to recruit Milner, Liverpool can expect to pay a hefty signing-on fee.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has admitted that he wouldn’t be surprised if Milner was made captain upon his arrival at Anfield.

“The fact that Rodgers wouldn’t confirm Jordan Henderson as this season’s captain – even though he was captain in Steven Gerrard’s absence last season – makes me think him and Milner could be competing for the armband,” the Sky Sports pundit said.

The contest in Bangkok represents the Reds’ sixth visit to the Thai capital; they will proceed to tour Australia and Asia, taking in destinations such as Kuala Lumpur, Adelaide and Brisbane.
