Benitez will be handed a large transfer fund war-chest, which will be topped off with funds from the sales of as many as four first team stars.

The La Liga side welcomed Benitez back to the club he represented between 1986 and 1995 in various coaching roles and president Florentino Perez will hope the former Valencia, Liverpool, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Napoli boss can get the Spanish giants back on track after a poor season.

Real Madrid have been chasing Man United custodian David De Gea for some months and Benitez is keen to secure the Spanish international and a £27m opening bid will be made in the coming week.

De Gea is said to favour a move back to his hometown and a lot will depend on whether Man United choose to stand in his way though the fact the 24 year old has just a year to run on his current contract leaves the way clear to a likely Old Trafford exit.

Benitez is ready to raid Anfield, despite the fact that doing so could affect his relationship with the Merseyside outfit’s staff and fans, as he seeks to sign contract rebel Raheem Sterling.

It is believe that the 20 year old is moving ever closer to a move away from Liverpool after alienating himself with the club’s supporters with his very public attempts to secure a transfer.

Real Madrid will make an initial offer in the region of £49m though should that bid be turned down then a second attempt is likely.

Perez is willing to spend big on Sterling due to his potential ‘sell on’ value and such a move could well depend on the club’s ability to find a buyer for Gareth Bale, with the Welsh international having experienced a fair amount of criticism over the course of the 2014/15 season.

Others who could be set for Real Madrid exits include Fabio Coentrao, Raphael Varane, Karim Benzema and Isco.
