Arsenal, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City are all monitoring how this offer is received, with the latter most likely to up the bidding. The Citizens have the money to offer £40-50 million for the England international, which may be what is need to force the Reds to sell.

The 20-year-old is currently in the middle of a contract wrangle with the Anfield hierarchy, and it is this which has piqued the interest of some of the biggest clubs in Europe. With the winger’s contract ending in two years it remains to be seen if this will be enough force the Merseyside club to sell.

Sterling scored eight goals and eight assists in 47 appearances this season while the Reds struggled to live up to pre-season expectations. They finished sixth in the Premier League after being runners up last time round.
