The Gunners are known to be on the lookout for new additions in attack in this transfer window, with the likes of Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck not convincing enough at the Emirates Stadium this season.

Higuain, meanwhile, enjoyed another highly prolific season in Serie A, maintaining the fine form that saw him emerge as one of the best strikers in the world during his time at Real Madrid.

With Napoli losing their manager Rafael Benitez to the Spanish giants this summer, some of their big players may be considering their futures, with Arsenal hoping to pounce.

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, the north London giants have failed with an initial approach for Higuain, and have been informed that an improved bid of around £36m could be enough to land the 27-year-old.
