The 24-year-old has struggled at Anfield, scoring just four goals in 28 appearances in his debut campaign. This is after the controversial forward made a much-talked-about move to the Merseyside club last summer as part of manager Brendan Rodgers’s plans to compensate for the loss of Luis Suarez to Barcelona.

Much like his time at Premier League rivals Manchester City, the Italy international disappointed. However, despite this, the Rossoneri seem to be willing to take him back, and the Reds hope they could even recoup most of the £16 million they paid for him. This would be a big relief considering financial fair-play restrictions and how big a flop the forward has been.

The 24-year-old scored just one goal in 16 Premier League outings this term, wholly failing to justify the faith shown in him by Rodgers.

The Serie A giants are close to appointing recently departed ex-Sampdoria boss Sinisa Mihajlovic to replace manager Filippo Inzaghi. The Serbian was linked to Balotelli during his time at the former club and could try to sign him again now he is at the San Siro.
