21-year-old Depay became Louis van Gaal’s first signing of the summer when he was bought from PSV Eindhoven having completed his medical on May 18, according to the official club website.

Depay has ostensibly arrived as a replacement for Radamel Falcao, who was sent back to AS Monaco at the end of his second-long loan deal having managed only four league goals during his stay at Old Trafford, via ManUtd.com.

It had been expected that van Persie would also join Falcao in leaving the club, with van Gaal refusing to confirm the player would be at the club next season [via ESPN] however, the player’s recent comments indicate that he is looking forward to next season at Old Trafford.

“I am looking forward to it,” he began, speaking to the Daily Star on the subject of playing alongside Depay at club level.

“I have been working with him for the last year or so with Holland, so I know him quite well.

“I am excited for him. He has made a big move to Manchester United and it will be interesting to see how he will do, and how he will take on this challenge.”

Van Persie’s comments suggest that he is expecting to remain at the club next term, despite an underwhelming return of 10 goals in 27 league appearances for United last term, as well as his fair share of injury problems.

The striker has admitted that he was finding his situation at the club “strange and difficult” and had been linked to the Red Devils exit door [via ESPN], with the likes of Juventus and Lazio linked to the former Arsenal hitman according to Sport.
