The Argentine has struggled in his first season with the Red Devils, scoring four goals and creating another ten in 32 appearances. According to La Sexta manager Louis van Gaal has relegated him to a place on the substitutes’ bench because of a poor relationship between the pair.

This has led to the 26-year-old asking his agent Jorge Mendes to sound out a return to the Bernabeu. However, Los Blancos aren’t interested in the winger who was so important in their ‘La Decima’ Champions League win in 2014.

Probably with this rejection ringing in his ears, the former Benfica ace has recently reaffirmed his commitment to United. The midfielder will be hoping to play a big part in their attempts to go from qualifying for the Champions League to challenging for the Premier League title.

Sky Sports reported him saying: “I have just finished my first season playing for Manchester United. It was a hard season for me. I think it was hard because it was another country and another league, and this league is harder than the Spanish one. So, I couldn’t adapt myself as I wanted to.

“Now I will play the Copa America and then I will move back to Manchester for next season and do my best there.”
