The signing would be a major coup for the Eagles, who had to rely on the likes of Yaya Sanogo, Marouane Chamakh, Dwight Gayle, and Glen Murray last season. Between them, the quartet managed 14 goals in the Premier League, while Remy managed half that by himself in just 668 minutes of top flight action. Even with the caveat that the France international was in a better side, this is a stark difference.

Perhaps a better sign of how the striker can do in a weaker team is the 14 goals he scored in 26 appearances for Newcastle United during the 2013/14 season, while current-Palace manager Alan Pardew was in charge at St. James’ Park. This shows the kind of upgrade the 53-year-old is looking for by attempting to buy his former charge.

Although it may be a step down for Remy, the 28-year-old might be interested in a move to Selhurst Park after playing second fiddle to Diego Costa at Stamford Bridge during the 2014-15 campaign. He averaged a goal every 1.12 games in all competitions for the Blues and it remains to be seen whether he would be happy remaining as a peripheral figure, albeit in a successful squad.
