The pair have been seen having dinner together with their wives, and it is thought that the legendary Scot has told his Dutch successor that he will do anything he can to help the Red Devils rebuild. With a £200 million transfer budget to spend the 63-year-old has taken up this offer, and is using the Old Trafford hero’s know how and contacts to help him get his targets.

After finishing fourth in the Premier League this season United will be wanting to build on their Champions League qualification to bring top quality reinforcements in to bolster their squad. Ferguson could be key to this. For example he has a great relationship with Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, meeting him in Madrid in March.

Should the pair manage to get the right signings they could help to orchestrate a title challenge, which will surely be the next step in recovering from Ferguson’s departure in 2013.
