The Colombian international, who scored 32 goals in all competitions this season to enhance his reputation as one of Europe’s most deadly finishers, has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium and looks exactly what the Gunners need up front.
According to the Metro, Arsenal officials have been privately excited by the deal, with many backing Arsene Wenger to bring Martinez in as an upgrade on the likes of Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck, who only scored 26 goals between them in 2014/15.
It remains to be seen if a deal can be ironed out, with other clubs also after the 28-year-old this summer, though Atletico Madrid are understood to have failed in an effort to land the South American goal-poacher.
