Speaking to Telefoot, as reported by Le 10 Sport, French international Mathieu has backed Pogba to star should he move to Catalonia.

“It’s the player we’re all waiting for,” he began, “because he has a lot of talent.

“Me, I think that he would have his place in the team.”

Pogba struggled to impress when in action for the Old Lady against his suitors in the Champions League final, which Barcelona won 1-0.

While the player has recently returned from a long-term injury, he struggled to assert himself against Barca’s midfield trio of Sergio Busquets, Ivan Rakitic and Andres Iniesta, and the zest that characterises his star turns in Serie A was largely absent.

As well as Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with a move for the powerhouse, who was part of Manchester United’s youth side before being controversially let go by the Old Trafford outfit.

Despite his injury concerns, Pogba managed eight goals and three assists in 26 Serie A outings as Max Allegri’s side lifted the Italian title.

Barcelona have openly admitted their admiration for the player, but as they are not permitted to register new players this summer, the soonest the club’s fans could see the 22-year-old in action would be January 2016.
