The Manchester City man will officially join for the Anfield outfit on July 1 on a free transfer after rejecting a new deal from the 2013/14 Barclays Premier League champions.

Milner, who can operate in a number of positions across the park, will add experience to a youthful Reds team that will be without the likes of Steven Gerrard and Glen Johnson next season.

The 29-year-old has won two league titles with City and his capture has been hailed by Lawrenson, who believes his former side still have the power to lure the best players to Merseyside:

“Milner’s signing will also help attract other players to join,” the television pundit wrote in his weekly column for the Liverpool Echo.

“They’ll see him choose Liverpool above staying at City, and take that as a sign there must be positive vibes coming from Anfield. It’s still a place to be,” Lawrenson stressed.

Milner is currently on international duty with England and started alongside future Liverpool team-mate Jordan Henderson in midfield against the Republic of Ireland in an eagerly anticipated friendly between the two rival nations.
