The 28-year-old could be one of many to leave the Italian side after manager Rafa Benitez joined Real Madrid. After scoring 12 goals in 57 appearances last season the forward’s stats aren’t exactly awe inspiring, but apparently Reds boss Brendan Rodgers thinks the Spaniard could help to solve the goalscoring crisis at Anfield.

After losing Luis Suarez to Barcelona last summer the Merseyside club found it difficult to score as freely as they did in the campaign before. Injuries to Daniel Sturridge didn’t help, but largely it was due to the abysmal form of Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert, and Fabio Borini.

In all competitions the quartet only managed just 13 goals, leaving midfielders Steven Gerrard and Raheem Sterling to lead the scoring charts. Callejon could be an improvement on this group, if not the player to finally replace the brilliant Suarez.
