If the French international does move to England, it may be there that Real will look for his replacement, with club president Florentino Perez said to be a big fan of Manchester City goal machine Sergio Aguero.
The prolific Argentine won the Golden Boot this season after another fine campaign and this fine form could now earn him a return to the Spanish capital, according to the Daily Mirror.
The 26-year-old would not come cheap, however, with City thought to be putting a £60m price tag on his head this summer, though that might not be enough to put Real off.
