The Spanish shot-stopper only joined United midway through the 2014/15 season, playing as understudy to David de Gea after leaving former club Barcelona on a free transfer.

Once regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, the 33-year-old is now struggling to establish himself, though it has been mooted that he could be the club’s number one next season as the Red Devils face the prospect of losing David de Gea to Real Madrid this summer.

Valdes made two appearances for United this season, but it seems his future is in some doubt as the Metro reports that Valencia are interested in luring him back to La Liga for next season.

The shot-stopper has previously starred in his native Spain, winning a whole host of major honours in a long career at the Nou Camp.
