The winger told the Argentine site Ole the reason why he stayed with the club. He claims Messi asked him to stay, adding that Messi thought “that there is nowhere else better than here”. All the rumours this week indicated that he was going to be transferred to PSG in the summer window.
A few hours after he signed his renewal with Barcelona, Alves received news about Danilo’s injury and was called up at the last minute by Dunga to play in the Copa America.
It had been a surprise that Dunga didn’t consider Dani Alves for the squad in the first place, but after Danilo’s incident last Wednesday in which he injured his right ankle Dunga was left with no choice.
Danilo will now fly to Spain to start the recovery process with his new club, Real Madrid.
