The Red Devils will have been disappointed by the recent news that Alves had signed a new deal at the Camp Nou that The Guardian reported. However, they haven’t let this ruin their transfer plans, quickly moving on to a new target.

Rocha isn’t the most well-known player, but he does have two caps for Brazil. The 26-year-old has been part of a very successful Galo side, helping them to win the South American version of the Champions League, the Copa Libertadores, in 2013. They have also won their State Championship twice since he became a first team regular in 2012, and the Copa do Brasil.

The defender will also be enticing to United boss Louis van Gaal for his ability to play at centre-back. Back in January, Goal reported that he 63-year-old prefers to sign ‘multi-functional’ players for his squads, and his propensity for formation changes does make versatility vital.

However, if Rocha does arrive at Old Trafford it will be his first time in European football, let alone the extra fast English game. His ability to adapt from the far slower Brazilian style may be something United will need to worry about.
