Benitez hopes to lure the 27 year old Argentine back to the Spanish capital though by all accounts the forward is happy at Man City.

Aguero finished the season as the Premier League’s top-scorer and has racked up 107 goals in four years in England and clearly Man City have no financial constraints and as such do not need to consider offers for the player.

Benitez may well have had designs on fielding Aguero in a central role, in place of Karim Benzema, with Gareth Bale and Critiano Ronaldo in wide roles in what would be a mouthwatering attack.

This source claims that Real Madrid have identified Inter Milan’s Mauro Icardi as an alternative and the Spanish giants may well see a move for the San Siro star far more likely to succeed.
