Manchester City offered Liverpool £25m for Sterling’s signature, but the Citizens were informed that they value the youngster at double that price, and will not entertain any offer that doesn’t meet their valuation [via BBC Sport].

The Reds would prefer not to be forced into selling the winger; however, if their price-tag of £50 is met, the Merseyside club will consider his sale, the Daily Star reports.

The British newspaper claim that Brendan Rodgers believes City will offer an improved amount within the next 48 hours, and it’s rumoured that the Sky Blues are confident that £40m will be enough to tempt the Reds into selling [via the Daily Mail].

The England international is reportedly eager to end his Anfield career this summer having earlier in the year rejected a contract extension worth £100,000 per-week. In May, the 20-year-old then confirmed to boss Brendan Rodgers of his desire to leave at the end of the season [via BBC Sport].

Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are all reportedly interested – but may have been put off by the £50m price-tag.
