Last term Louis van Gaal used Luis Antonio Valencia as his first choice right-back, with Rafael as a back-up option, but it appears the Dutch boss has been keen to land a fresh addition to his squad.

The likes of Dani Alves and Nathaniel Clyne have both been targeted but now Man United have set their sights on Fabinho.

This source claims the Old Trafford side are set to make a £10.2m bid for the Brazilian international, who spent some months on loan at Real Madrid prior to his move to the Stade Louis II, with AS Monaco having made their initial temporary move for the youngster a permanent one in May.

Fabinho is part of Dunga’s Copa America squad and as such any move to bring in the youngster may well have to wait until after the competition has ended.
