Chelsea could be about to scupper Loic Remy’s possible exit from the club in this summer’s transfer window as they set a £15m price tag for the French striker, who has been linked with both West Ham United and Crystal Palace.

According to The Sun, this fee has put clubs off pursuing the 28-year-old, who was little more than a backup player at Stamford Bridge in the season just gone, though he has previously shone in the Premier League with both Queens Park Rangers and Newcastle United.

A prolific penalty-box poacher with great instincts, finishing ability, and composure in front of goal, Remy would serve most teams in this division well, but is maybe a risky buy at that kind of price, given his recent record with injuries.

Although the former Marseille man was largely an understudy to Diego Costa for the Premier League champions in 2014/15, he also ended up missing large chunks of the season himself due to repeated fitness problems, meaning veteran forward Didier Drogba was brought in several times to lead the line for Jose Mourinho’s men.

Still, with The Sun’s reported £15m fee for Remy, it seems Chelsea may be keen to hold onto the player this summer, even if he is only third choice now as the report also expects Radamel Falcao to be signed on loan from AS Monaco, likely taking the place as second-choice centre-forward behind Costa.

This gives Chelsea three quality front-men to choose from next season, though it remains to be seen if a player of Remy’s stature would be happy to accept such a role, even if it is at one of Europe’s biggest clubs.
