The agent of AS Roma defensive midfielder Radja Nainggolan appears to have opened the door to the possibility of his client joining Real Madrid in this summer’s transfer window, according to the Daily Star.

The Belgian international has been a top performer for the Serie A side in recent times, having established himself as a top class defensive player with some ability going forward as well.

A great all-rounder, Nainggolan could also fit in well in the Premier League with his physical and aggressive style, with the Daily Express recently claiming he is on the radar of both Manchester United and Liverpool this summer, though they may struggle to sign him.

Nainggolan’s agent Ludovico Spinosi has backed that up with his latest quotes in the Star, saying that he expects the player to still be at Roma next season, though that interest from Real Madrid specifically could make a difference to how his future pans out.

“Nainggolan will continue at Roma, when it comes to Real Madrid things can change,” he said.

“[Club president James] Pallotta knows that Nainggolan is very important and that he can have numerous offers for the player. Watch out for Real Madrid.”

Real already have various big-name options in midfield in Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, though it may be that there will be some changes to personnel under new manager Rafael Benitez, who could be keen to put his own stamp on the squad he has inherited at the Bernabeu.

A more defensive-minded midfielder like Nainggolan could be particularly useful for the club, with the Kroos-Modric partnership arguably a little too attacking and lightweight, with the 27-year-old Stadio Olimpico ace offering some variety in that role and a little more protection to the back four.

With Real hoping to topple treble-winners Barcelona in next season’s title race in Spain, they will need to ensure they spend wisely and have a balanced squad in time for the start of 2015/16.
