Manchester City could be ready to go head-to-head with Paris Saint-Germain for the signing of Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba this summer, according to the Daily Star.

The French international has been targeted by a whole host of top European clubs in recent times after emerging as one of the world’s best youngsters over the last few years.

The 22-year-old may now finally be on his way out of Juventus, with the Star claiming that he has an asking price of £70m, which is now expected to be met by PSG as they step up their interest in the player.

Still, City are also reported as being in the hunt for Pogba’s signature, and there’s no doubt Manuel Pellegrini’s side could benefit hugely from a big injection of quality this summer, with their current squad looking like going a little stale with some disappointing performances in defence of their Premier League title this season.

Finishing some way behind Chelsea in second place, City were never really in the running for the title this term, and a new midfielder would be a great buy for the club after some indifferent form from both Fernando and Fernandinho alongside Yaya Toure, who was also not at his best in 2014/15.

Pogba’s fine form for Juve helped them to a fourth consecutive Serie A title win, as well as a run to the Champions League final, so it may be that his presence in the City squad would be what was needed to take the team to the next level after they have failed to truly progress in recent times, despite two title wins since 2012.

The report from the Star adds that the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United are also still considering bids for Pogba this summer.
