The 24-year-old has his heart set on a move to the Spanish capital, where he used to play while with Atletico Madrid before arriving at Old Trafford. This will be a major blow to the Red Devils, who relied heavily on the goalkeeper last season. While their back line was error prone, the Spain international was in brilliant form to help them finish fourth and qualify for the Champions League.

It looks like they will now have to play in Europe’s premier club competition without the stopper, which could hugely affect their chances of making progress in it. That is unless United are able to get a replacement, and both Tottenham star Hugo Lloris and Atletico Madrid ace Jan Oblak could be just that according to the Mail.

Real are expected to start off their bidding for De Gea at £13 million, but will end up having to pay more for the ‘keeper. Even so, teammates apparently now think that it is a question of when and not if he leaves Old Trafford, which will leave manager Louis van Gaal with one more problem to deal with before the new season starts in August.
