Alexis Sanchez’ stunning season continued on international duty for Chile as he scored his first goal of the Copa America tournament during their 5-0 thrashing of Bolivia in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The 26-year-old doubled Chile’s lead in the 37th minute as he swapped passes with Jorge Valdivia before finding the back of the net with a brilliant diving header.

The tournament hosts finished top of Group A and will now face the best third-placed team in the quarter-finals, meaning they are likely to be hot favourites to reach the semi-final.

Sanchez, who signed from La Liga giants Barcelona last summer, was in sensational form the Gunners last season and he scored 25 goals in all competitions, including a brilliant effort in the FA Cup victory over Aston Villa last month.

He will be hoping to add an Copa America winners medal to his collection and round off what has been a fantastic year for him.
