Hernandez spent last season on loan at Real Madrid and despite playing a bit-part role the Mexican international still managed to impress.

The 27 year old started just seven La Liga fixtures, as well as coming on as sub on a further 16 occasions, and managed to net seven times.

He also bagged a winner against Atletico Madrid when the city rivals came up against each other in the Champions League knockout stages, and as such is a player Diego Simeone is all to aware of.

Though Louis van Gaal could well do with additional attacking options, with Radamel Falcao having been sent back to AS Monaco after his less than glorious loan spell and veteran forward Robin van Persie struggling with form and fitness, it appears Hernandez is very much surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.
