Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers is ready to give up on first choice striker target Christian Benteke in favour of a move for in-form Zenit man Rondon.

Rondon has proven a big success since moving to Zenit, helping Andre Villas-Boas to secure a Russian Premier League title this season, the former Malaga man bagging 20 goals in all competitions.

Rodgers has brought in Danny Ings to help boost his misfiring attack but could well be keen on bringing in another striker this summer.

Rickie Lambert, Mario Balotelli and Fabio Borini managed just four Premier League goals between them in 2014/15 and Liverpool also greatly missed Daniel Sturridge, who was sidelined with injury for much of the campaign.
