The Argentine manager believes that English champions Chelsea are the only team that give Atleti a run for their money in terms of performances on the pitch.
In what will surely be a huge ego-boost to Jose Mourinho, Simeone doesn’t even mention the Blues’ rivals Arsenal, Manchester United or Manchester City, as he voices his belief on where Rojiblancos stand among Europe’s elite.
He said, “…There are not many teams who are better in a sporting sense. There aren’t six teams better than us. Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, maybe Chelsea, and then us. Financially we are in the [top] 15,” as quoted by the London Evening Standard.
Mourinho and Simeone may be locked in talks over the summer with reports continuing to link the west London outfit with a move for star Estadio Vicente Calderon striker Antoine Griezmann. According to the Express, the French forward could replace the unsettled Loic Remy at Stamford Bridge; however, his release-clause of £43m combined with Paris Saint-Germain’s rumoured interest [via The Telegraph] could put the 24-year-old’s signature out of their reach.
