The pair are apparently his most trusted confidants, and they were deciding on how to deal with the current situation. Th e29-year-old still has two years left on his contract but talks over a new deal aren’t going well, and he is also especially unhappy about how Barcelona’s presidential candidates were able to talk about his transfer without Los Blancos’ hierarchy stepping in to deny the rumours.

As such a move to Old Trafford could be getting more likely. However, earlier on Monday Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague had revealed to Sky Sports that the Bernabeu outfit weren’t interested in selling one of their star players. The Red Devils would have to pay his €200 million release clause to force a transfer.

United want the defender as part of a deal that would see David De Gea go the other way, according to The Guardian. If they are to lose their goalkeeper then getting a top class centre-back in to shore up their back line would seem like a smart move by manager Louis van Gaal. However, whether the Spain international is within their reach is another matter.
