Liverpool FC news.

The 20 year old has turned down the offer of a new Anfield contract and Brendan Rodgers has successfully completed the signing of Brazi international Roberto Firmino [via the club’s official website], who could well be seen as the England international’s replacement.

Manchester City have failed with earlier bids for Sterling [via ESPN] and Liverpool are thought to want £50m for the former Queens Park Rangers man according to Sky Sports, and as such are unlikely to entertain Chelsea’s offer. The Anfield giants may hope that Chelsea’s interest can prompt a bidding war for the player.

Jose Mourinho may feel Sterling could offer more in the final third than the likes of Willian or Oscar, with the former offering little in the way of a goal threat and the latter having a fairly average campaign last term. The allure of a move to the Premier League title-holders would surely tempt the Liverpool man.

Sterling saw his Liverpool side fail to secure a Champions League berth and has stated his intention to leave Anfield, claiming his reasons are not financially motivated [via Sky Sports], and the Londoner may well be keen to return to the capital.

Sterling netted 11 goals in all competitions last term and was one of the few impressive performers in Liverpool’s first-team set-up during what was a very disappointing campaign.
