West Ham United could be preparing an ambitious move to sign out-of-favour Chelsea winger Mohamed Salah on loan this summer, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Hammers are keen admirers of the Egyptian international, who has struggled for playing time at Stamford Bridge, but who has caught the eye in a loan move away from the club with Fiorentina.

Salah spent the second half of last season with the Italian club, scoring nine goals and looking an exciting young player with plenty of potential, and one who perhaps deserves more of a chance to show what he can do in the Premier League.

The 23-year-old impressed at previous club FC Basel as well, which earned him his big move to Chelsea in January 2014, though he only ended up making 19 appearances for the West London club in total, scoring two goals.

With so much competition in Jose Mourinho’s squad, it is perhaps unsurprising that even a talent like Salah has struggled for playing time, with the likes of Eden Hazard, Oscar and Willian all among the finest players in the world in that attacking midfield position.

Still, this could prove to West Ham’s advantage as they seek some big signings for the new season, with new manager Slaven Bilic perhaps keen to put his own stamp on the squad inherited from his predecessor Sam Allardyce.

West Ham were perhaps not free-scoring enough under Allardyce last season, so a smart signing of a player like Salah on loan could be just what the team needs, with the underrated wide-man able to provide skill, pace and goals from either flank.
